The salary cap decides which players a club can keep, which it can add, and what a trade or an injury really costs. The rules are public but spread across a collective bargaining agreement, a memorandum of understanding and years of practice, and the figures change with every move. Most conversations about a team's cap start with a number somebody half-remembers.
Pro Pocket Watch is built on one idea: a cap figure is only useful if it is right. Every contract is recorded season by season from the published record. Every club's total is added up and compared with the club's own published figure before it is shown, and an update that doesn't match is not used. Where a figure is rounded, projected or estimated, the page says so beside it. How each figure is checked, what the terms mean and where to report a wrong one are set out in Methodology.
The site is written to be read two ways at once: by a general manager who wants the exact room under the ceiling, and by a fan who wants to know whether the team can afford the winger everyone is talking about. Each page leads with the figure that answers the question, and the tables beneath it show the work.
